‘Using our Greenhouse to Grow and Donate’ – this is the project chosen by the Eco School Committee in connection with the project LEAF.  Besides this, the committee is working on soil analysis so that we can apply for the Green Flag.  ‘Grow 10’ donated plenty of seeds to our school, and during break time the students are gathering in the greenhouse to plant and water these seeds.  In the school garden we are also planting different agricultural products.

We thank our students for their commitment involving these projects and Mr Joseph Savona and Ms Vanessa Edwards for co-ordinating this project.

During the past weeks, our students had prayer sessions related to Lent and today Friday, 22nd March we celebrated together the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.  We had mass at school celebrated by Fr Carl Mario Sultana and animated by our Pastoral Care team.  Before mass, a group of students shared their experience of the prayer sessions which were related to the five gifts which poet Dun Karm Psaila mentions in the Maltese Anthem: wit, mercy, strength, union, and peace.  After mass, the headmaster urged the students to pray for all those who are suffering due to health problems or death experiences.  He encouraged everyone to care for each other and never cause suffering to one other.  The headmaster also congratulated our Year 11 students who terminated their studies at school and the student teachers who spent a term at our school.  He wished a Blessed Easter to everyone and thanked the Pastoral Care Team for their contribution in organising these activities at school.

Wednesday, 20th March, 2024 – A group of parents attended for the last session of the Parenting Skills Course we held at our school over the past six weeks.  We congratulate these parents for the commitment they showed by attending for this course.

We thank Ms Joyce Callus for the professional service she offers every year.

On Monday, 18th March a number of students together with their parents joined us for an evening of prayer and reflection in preparation for Easter. This celebration was based on the five wounds of Jesus.  The evening was characterised with readings from the Bible, features, prayers, experiences, confession sessions and adoration of the Holy Eucharist.  This celebration reached the climax when everyone gathered around the crucifix for a moment of adoration.  We would like to thank the Pastoral Team who prepared this celebration which will remain in our hearts forever.

Sports Day at our school is always a memorable experience.  On Friday, 15th March between 8.00am and 2.30pm we had a full day of activities and creativity.

We would like to thank Mr Luke Borg and Mr Luke Busuttil, our PE teachers for planning and organising the whole event.  Thanks also to the House Leaders who co-ordinated the members of staff and students of the respective houses.  We would also like to thank Mr Peter Paul Calleja and his brother for providing the sound system and Mr Neville Galea Pirotta for his professional service to capture these memories by taking photos.  Thank you to all staff members who helped throughout the day – referees, preparation of hot dogs, IT system for inputting marks, first aid and all those who helped to clear and clean the ground and the corridors.

A special thank you to our students who participated eagerly and showed team spirit throughout the day.  It was indeed a Team Building experience for staff and students together.

On Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th March our Year 8 students went for a fieldwork session at Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park.  The students had the opportunity to observe different habitats like xagħri, il-makkja and l-isteppa.  They also learnt how to use the quadrats.  Together they observed and identified a large variety of plants found in the Maltese islands.  Our students learnt how these plants adapt themselves to the hot and humid climate of Malta.  Finally, they learnt about the importance of trees and the effect they leave on the climate.

We would like to thank Ms Bahmuller, Ms Caruana and Ms Farrugia, our science teachers who offered this opportunity to our students.  We also thank the LSEs who accompanied these groups.

During the past months we worked hard so that today at school we have a multi-sensory room.  Individual attention and our wish to give the best service possible to each student are statements clearly stated in the school ethos and SDP.  Hence our decision to invest in this multi-sensory room which amounted to €42,000.  We would like to thank the parents for their help throughout this mission.  Thanks also to Mr Ian Borg who, together with Mr Simon Camilleri co-ordinated the work on this room.  Thanks also to Ms Maria Mizzi, Occupational Therapist from the Secretariat for her wise advice and for the training offered to our LSEs.  Finally, a huge thank you to Mr Edward Tanti from Be Independent for his professional work to set up this multi-sensory room.

On Friday, 1st March we started recording the students’ attendance with an electronic card (SMID St Michael ID).  Every student was given a card which he must scan when he arrives at school.  The attendance is registered immediately in the school website.  The system records the day and time when the student arrives at school enabling the parents to see the time their son entered school.  If a student fails to attend school, at 08:30 the system shall automatically send an email to inform the parents of the students concerned.

This same card shall also be used to borrow books, pay handouts, and transport and buy from the tuckshop.  The parents shall have a record of all the payments affected by card.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Maurice Aquilina, Director and CEO of M7Alpha Creative Studios – www.m7alpha.com and Mr Christian Grech for always offering professional service to us.

On Thursday, 29th February our Year 10 Biology students went for a fieldwork visit to Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park.  The students appreciated the biodiversity and use of sustainable energy found in this park.  They had the opportunity to observe different habitats like ‘xagħri’, ‘steppa’ u ‘makkja’.  With the help of quadrats, they identified a large variety of plants found on the Maltese islands while they discussed how these plants adapt themselves to the dry climate of Malta.

We thank Ms Maria Caruana, our Biology teacher for organising this fieldwork and Mr Matthew Borg for accompanying her with this group of students.
