Exploring the Science of Baking: Year 9 Biology Students Visit Maypole
Feb 21, 2025
On Thursday, 20th February, our Year 9 Biology students visited Maypole to explore the science behind baking. They learned how yeast, a living microorganism, carries out anaerobic respiration, breaking down sugars to produce carbon dioxide and ethanol. This fermentation process causes the dough to rise, giving bread its soft and airy texture. Students had the chance to observe the process firsthand and even taste freshly baked products. Thank you to Maypole for this interesting and delicious hands-on experience!
