Search Engine

  • It would be practically impossible to find any information needed on the World Wide Web without knowing a specific url (uniform resource locator)
  • Search engines are the key to finding specific information on the World Wide Web. Such examples are: Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask
  • Search engines allow users to find a specific document by means of a keyword

Tips for searching

  • First of all try to be specific
  • Searching a whole phrase together use inverted commas: "St Michael School"
  • Searching for 2 words in a webpage: +school +computer
  • Searching for a particular word but not wanting another in the results: +"digital camera" -sony
  • Searching between 2 options: vacation london OR paris
  • Searching only in particular domain: admission site:www.um.edu.mt
  • Searching with numeric range: DVD player $250..350
