What is a network?

• A network is a connection between computers controlled by a server
• A network is made up of computers connected together to be able to share data and peripherals
• Processing is still carried out by the terminal (computer on network)
• On a network not all terminals need be of the same kind

What is the Internet?

• The Internet is a worldwide and publicly accessible series of interconnected computer networks
• So the Internet is is a global collection of networks, Interconnected Networks
• These networks connect together in many different ways to form the single entity that we know as the Internet
• In fact, the very name comes from this idea of interconnected networks.

Internet Facilities

• E-Mail - Electronic Mail - Send and receive electronic messages - example
• Chatting - exchange messages online in real time with one or more simultaneous users - example
• IPTV - Internet Protocol Television Internet television services are delivered using the broadband Internet access, instead of being delivered through traditional transmission methods - example
• VOIP - Voice Over IP - Telephone calls via normal phones, special phones or computer - example

• Telnet - Logging onto another computer to use its facilities or control it - example
